L is for Laminator

Okay, I broke down and bought this today:

Laminating at school stresses me. Yes, I should be able to let it go, but I don't. No, I shouldn't spend my own money on it, but I did.

Anyways...for those of you with this one give me some pointers!

Did I get for a good deal at $25? Anyone who knows me knows that I love my coupons.

Can I laminate a whole page of something and then cut it into smaller game pieces? Will it unpeel?

Where's the best place to buy laminating pouches?

Will I be stressed by laminating at home too?

(Talk about first world problems...)

Oh and this made me giddy with excitement when I saw it on Tuesday:

If I didn't live 25 minutes away from the nearest Target {gasp!}, I'd be up there everyday. Being 25 minutes away from the nearest Target is probably a good thing.

Happy Sunday!

  1. You could probably get the pouches at Joann's or Michaels with a 40% off coupon and your 15% teacher discount cheap enough to justify the drive there. Let me know how it works. =) Heather

    1. JoAnn's is where I got the laminator. They didn't let me use a coupon and the teacher discount like they do at Michael's though. Even when I say, "Oh, hmm, they let me use both at Michaels........" =)

  2. I want a laminator so bad, but I keep putting it off. I wish I lived 25 minutes from a Target. I'm literally there 5 out of 7 days of the week. They were just starting to put school supplies up in the one by me & I was pulling supplies off of the rack as they were putting them on. I got a strange look from a worker & kindly explained that I was a teacher! LOL :)

  3. I purchased one recently and you will LOVE it!! :) It is an awesome purchase! I've only used the scotch laminating pouches so far, and it seems like laminating and then cutting pieces is ok! I saw some packs on amazon 100 for $10. That's the best I've seen so far! :)

    Have fun!

  6. Oh my goodness I just order this on Amazon and I am SO excited for it to get here already!!!! (so sad how the silliest stuff can excited us, right?!) :-) I heard use the coupon at Joannes or Michaels for the pouches! PS- One time at school I gotta hair caught in the laminator!... Talk about stressing out- I feel you! :)

  7. The laminating is so much thicker then the one at my work. We are not allowed to do the laminating ourselves at work but must submit it to the media center specialist and then wait until it is done to pick it up. So I use it for anything that this smaller than a sheet of paper.

    To answer you questions:

If you have a Sam's card I hear you can get a pack of 200 for $20 but since I don't have a Sam's card I order mine from Amazon.

I have never had it unpeel on me before. I also put a little dab of glue from a glue stick on the back of small pieces so they don't slide around when I am trying to put it into the laminator.

    Enjoy!! :)

    1. Do you order any brand of laminating pouches? I've been nervous about ordering from Amazon because I wasn't sure if non-Scotch brand pouches would work as well.

  8. O gosh, I have been debating whether or not I should get a laminator as well! You'll have to let us know what you think of it!

  9. I just bought one the other day but haven't used it yet. It's good to know you can buy the pouches on Amazon. 100 for $10 seems like a great deal!

  10. I think you got a good deal--I got mine for around $20 but that was like 9 years ago. I ADORE mine. You can cut smaller pieces from it...the laminate is actually much stronger than the typical school ones and holds up nicely. The only thing I have to be careful of (when cutting game pieces) is to kind of round off the edges so they are smooth and not scratchy, since the plastic is so thick.

I think it'll be pretty stress-free for you! It runs slowly enough that you can even laminate and blog at the same time!! :)

  12. I have one and I love, love, love it! I'm considering buying one to keep at home and school. I get my pouches from Sam's for 200 for $20. I can laminate things and then cut them out and they stay really well. My only suggestion is to not cut the pouches before laminating. I did this once trying to save some laminate as I was only laminating a half of a page and it ended up getting jammed. My laminator was okay but I had to reprint the item :(

Have fun. I actually find laminating a stress reducer!!

    1. Haha! I think CUTTING it is. Some people think that's crazy but whatever works right?

  13. Sam's Club for the pouches. It only peels if it is thick or layered. Always be sure to put the sealed end in first!

  14. I have this one and love it!!! I like the laminating sheets from Sams best... cheep and work great. The Lakeshore ones are expensive and AWFUL. Don't buy them... trust me. The Scotch sheets, of course, work great. If you want a VERY thick lamination, then buy the ones from Office Max or Staples. They are super expensive, but very durable. I used them to make some class signs to hang up. One of the best things about this one is the awesome customer service. I was a dummy and put the lamination sheet in backwards once. It completely jammed on me :/ Scotch sent me a shipping label for me to send it to them to fix. They couldn't fix it, so they sent me a brand new one for free. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G :)

Oh, and I always put full sheets in, then cut pieces apart. It has never been a problem.

  15. Good to know about the being able to laminate a full sheet then cut apart, because I've always cut apart then laminated and cut apart again because I was nervous the lamination would come apart. Awesome discussion!

  16. I bought that laminator last year and it is awesome!! You got a great price on it (I paid about the same); I've seen it priced significantly higher at different places, but mid twenties is the best price out there. You can definitely laminate a whole sheet and then cut out smaller pieces. I just made about 20 centers (each about 4 pages of stuff to cut out per center) and they look great! The lamination is thick. The best thing about it is that you can laminate whenever you want! At our school we aren't even allowed to touch the laminator, so you can imagine how useful this has been for me!

    1. We can't either. And can I just tell you how much my blood pressure rises when I worked on something and then two pieces get laminated together? Or even worse LOST! This is just seemed like a good idea. =)

  17. I agree with everyone else. You will LOVE it!! The laminating film is so much thicker than the school stuff, and it's great for things you want to use year after year (like game pieces). I brought mine home this summer, and I am using it to laminate everything I'm making for my math centers.

But, 200 sheets for $20 at Sam's? I'm so there!!

  18. Honestly, this is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I love, love, love my laminator. I get my sheets from Sams too and have never had a problem with the laminating peeling up. Thanks again for joining up with the Florida 15 giveaway. Happy laminating : )

  19. I have thought about getting one of these. I will have to look into it for next year! I too live 25 minutes away from Target. My husband is happy for that! I am your newest follower!

  20. I have the same laminator and have been using it for over a year. I love it and have had no problems with it! I think it's a great deal for $25. I order my pouches in bulk on both Amazon and Ebay.. whichever has been prices whenever I need them. I have found that buying a pack of 50 in the store is WAY MORE EXPENSIVE!

  21. I think I want a laminator now as an early bday present :) I love all the tips you received.
Target is 10 miles away from home and is very, very dangerous!

  22. You have totally convinced me! That will be my NEXT school purchase. Try your iron on peeling pieces from the school laminator. I have had good luck with that. I have repaired pieces that are from games 15 years old that I inherited.
