Alarm - Me: Bah-love bug!

8:10
Student in the hallway: Ms. Buckwer! Look at the Vawentime's cards I bringed!
Me: Cute! Put them in your backpack until you get to your classroom!

8:11
Student #2 in the hallway: Ms. Buckler! I have Valentine's Cards for my friends! They have puppies on them!
Me: Awesome! Put them in your backpack until you get to your classroom! Go to breakfast!

8:12
Student in the hallway #378: Ms. Buckler! Look at my Valentines!
Me: Hey, after I help you pick these up off the sidewalk, keep them in your backpack until you get to your classroom.

(None of these kids were actually mine.)

8:30
Stella: Can we pass out Valentines now? I have three for everyone.
Me: No. We are doing that at 2:00.

9:45
Student: Can we do our Valentine's party now?
Me: Nope. 2:00.

10:30
We make Valentines for our parents.
Me: Step 1 - Trace your hand and cut it out.
Student: WE HAVE TO CUT OUT OUR HANDS? THAT WILL HURT!
Me: Step 2 - Trace the heart and cut it out.
Student: YOU WANT US TO CUT OUT OUR HEARTS!?
Me: Very funny...No party for you!

10:48
Student: Is it time for Valentine's yet?
Me: No, sir. It's time for P.E. We'll do them after lunch.

12:15
Student: It's after lunch. Can we do Valentine's now?
Me: No! 2:00 AND IF ONE MORE PERSON ASKS ME, I EAT ALL THE CANDY!

1:55
Student: Can we do Valentine's NOW?!
Me: I guuuuuueeessssss.
(Last year's class I said, "Have at it!"...This year's class I said, "Everyone sit on the carpet and three people at a time will pass out Valentines." Can you tell we have a controlling ourselves issue?)

They are so spoiled.
2:15
Student: This is the best day of my life!
Student: Ewwww! (So and So) said he "woofs" me!
Student: (eating the marshmallow pops I brought) Mmmm...double thumbs up!

2:30
Me: Let's go home!

3:05
Me: (getting screamed at by a parent in the office for her bi-weekly rant) I don't have to listen to this! I am the teacher and that's the way I handled it!

4:26
Me: (in the parking lot) Who did this to my car???!!!

Someone had turned my car into a Love Bug!

She said I've been too grumpy lately. =)

After that I enjoyed some yummy Sangria with friends and now here I am sharing my day.

I hope you've had a wonderful Valentine's day!

V is for Valentine Centers

Yeah, I know what those of you who know me are thinking. I'm pretty bah-lovebug about Valentine's day. (Not the movie because Taylor and Taylor were so cute together...)

I do, however, get a big kick out of seeing my little darlings get so excited about it. So I try to make it fun for them.

I've found oodles of awesome Valentiney math resources on pinterest and other blogs, but a few key second grade skills were hard to find.

The only thing you might want to pick-up are these heart-shaped boxes from the Dollar Tree. (That sentence made me start humming Nirvana.)

To prove that I'm not TOTALLY bah-lovebuggy, I will email this file to the first 5 lovely people who leave a comment with their email address for FREE! (Don't forget to join this blog, too.)

Sorry if you are humming Nirvana now, too.

V is for ValentiMes Day!

No matter how many times you tell kids it's ValentiNe's Day, some of them just can't give up the M.

Now, I've never really LIKED Valentine's day, but I can't say I dislike it. It's just that one time in third grade when my "boyfriend" embarrassed me by showering me with gifts. And then that time in 8th grade when this geeky boy on the bus told me he loved me. And then that time in college...

Nevermind.

Let's just say that I prefer Valentine's Day from the role of a teacher. Despite the fact that I posted this yesterday.

It's especially fun when I come home with chocolate.

These kids are getting good grade the rest of the year!

I was really excited to give my darlings the hand-made valentines I made them. On Friday, they were discussing what kind of valentines they were giving out and I told them I was making super secret ones.

It was inspired by this book that we had read last week:

Now don't let the title fool you. The Pout-Pout fish turns into a Kiss-Kiss fish by the end.

Before that happens, he likes to spread his dreary-wearies around.

We had a LOT of fun reading this book.

I did have to explain that there will be NO SMOOCHING in our class. Just in case.

All morning long, I got surprise visits from other teachers' students. At least I think they meant to give the valentines to me.

Slightly inappropriate? No?

Then there was this one:

I hope her teacher doesn't mind.

And Miss Drama from last year brought me one.

She remembered how to spell my name, that I am NOT a Mrs. and that my favorite color is red. What a sweetie.

She must have also know that I've been working out...

Our school's Safety Patrol sold a lot of these candy grams:

This one was from a first grader. I think she's trying to butter me up.

The rest of those said names such as: Butler, Bushler, Bucker, and Bukler.

We got a visit from our lovely Women's Club ladies. They brought us all a Beanie Baby.

We also had a visitor in our tree. We noticed it on the way in for our party. We decided it was a Valentine Bird.

During our party, I asked Sassy to be the photographer.

Her: What do I take pictures of?
Me: Important things!

This is a collage of what all 12 of her pictures were like.

Important things, indeed.

The HIGHLIGHT of the day came during after school tutoring. One of my special guys handed me something. I was soooooooooo excited because he's not the kind of dude to share his feelings.

Me: You made me a valentine?!?! Awwwwwwwwww!
Him: Just read it.

It was a reminder for me to bring his favorite snack.

I hope that your ValentiMes' day was as fun as (or hopefully more fun than) mine.

(P.S. Valentine's Day is on a {Terrible} Tuesday next year!)
