Have you heard of the
FISH! Philosophy?
Our school adopted it a few years ago. My principal showed us a video of the Pike's Place Fish Market guys and how they have such a wonderful working environment. A few of us developed a slight crush on Josh (the last guy on the "What is FISH!" video), but that's not what "hooked" us. It sounded like a lot of fun and easy to do.
The four principles:
Even though the hype has kind of died down over they years, it is still ingrained in my mind.
I try my best to "be there" for my coworkers and "make their day" when I can.
I am not so good at the "choose your attitude" because I can get pretty sassy.
But, I think I am really good at the "play" one.
That's my tagline on my blog after all. "Who says school has to always be serious?"
I try to lighten things up. People use "silly" and "nuts" as adjectives to describe me.
This week our book for guided reading groups is
All About Tomatoes.
You might not know this, but I. HATE. TOMATOES. I think they should be completely pulverized into red sauce or catchup. Otherwise...BLEH!
So four groups of hearing about tomatoes for a whole week is just torturous for me.
Mrs. W, being the wonderful person she is, brought in some real tomatoes to show the darlings. I saw them yesterday and shuddered. I said, "BLEH!" and she cracked up.
They were still on her table after school and it was the perfect opportunity to "play".
This is what she found this morning.
There was also the "Shoe Phone Incident of 2012" in my class today. It wasn't my fault. Mrs. Joanie started it! She is the master at "playing".

I bet you follow the principles of the FISH! Philosphy and you didn't even know it. How do you "play" at your school? (I'll also take suggestions on how to be better at choosing my attitude...)
